Illustrator
About
Sarah Amar is a self-taught American illustrator. Originally from Colorado, she is currently living overseas.

Her work is deeply influenced by classic and vintage children's books, and her favorite stories have a hint of danger, mystery, and magic in them. Her work covers a range of subjects and themes, but she especially loves to illustrate the natural world, wild landscapes, and the brave little people who have adventures in them.

Her style embraces naturalistic textures, elegant and classic color palettes, uncluttered compositions, expressive faces and gestures, and atmospheric environments.

A writer and researcher by training, she has a background in literature, story analysis and development, and dramatic writing. She holds a BA in English from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and an MA/MSc in International History from Columbia University and the London School of Economics. Additionally, she studied story analysis through UCLA and playwriting through HB Studio in New York. She also has experience as a primary-level English teacher in the Peace Corps, a beat reporter in NYC, and a script reader in film development, among other things.
At the moment, she is developing story ideas for children's picture books, building her illustration portfolio, and chasing her four-year-old daughter through the woods.
